What started as an open call for a group show at Articulations’ Earl Selkirk Gallery was an opportunity to play with an idea I’ve been mulling over for some time. Embroidery & pine needles.
I like Canadiana & I had kept this rustic woodland deer motif from my days designing sweaters for a Toronto manufacturer. I just needed to alter the layout to fit the shadow box restrictions for the show. The pine needles I collected last year were still fragrant as I cross stitched them down onto the paper. I’m hoping to expand on this idea with a series of sculptural works.
“Pining” – 6″ x 6″ – Cotton embroidery with pine needles on paper.
I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the work on display during the show.
